SURREY ASBAH

PROPOSED CHANGE OF NAME

 

Since October 2011, national ASBAH has been known as Spina Bifida • Hydrocephalus • Information • Networking • Equality - SHINE.

 

The Surrey ASBAH committee has been discussing the options available following the re-branding of the national charity to Shine and proposes that Surrey ASBAH changes its name to Surrey Spina Bifida • Hydrocephalus • Information • Networking • Equality – SHINE with a working name of Shine Surrey.

This proposal will be recommended by the committee at the AGM on 25th March 2012 (Please note date change) and a formal vote will be taken. If the membership agrees, the association will change its name from that date and adopt the new logo– example below.

 

Note: ‘Surrey’ would replace ‘Somerset’ in the logo below

Why does the committee want to change the name?

The Committee believes this would be a very positive and exciting change which will benefit the association as we look to the future, especially in an environment where more and more charities are fighting for recognition and where funds are more and more difficult to come by.

Surrey ASBAH is a separate charity from national and there is no requirement for us to change in line with the national charity; we are free to make our own decision. However, our local association has strong links with national ASBAH/Shine and we believe that we would benefit from continuing that association and ensuring that the national branding is shared at the local level. We believe there would be strength in a united image.

The committee has given the proposal considerable thought over recent months. Like any change, a new name takes some time to get used to, and you may not like it at first, but over time we have come to believe that the name Shine has the younger, more modern image that we need.

 

Who can vote?

Only fully paid up members of Surrey ASBAH will be eligible to vote at the AGM. The membership forms for 2012 will be sent with the January newsletter and it will be very important that you renew your membership promptly in order to be eligible to vote.
